Aims & Objectives The population explosion has resulted in an ever increasing demand for accommodation in the urban areas, rendering the housing problem more and more grim. According to an estimate, one lac dwelling units are presently needed in the urban areas and this demand will rise to two lakh units by the end of the year 2001. The demand for housing facilities is also increasing in the rural areas day by day. The input in the housing stock of the state is only around two thousands per year because of the paucity of financial resources with the government and semi-government institutions. According to a rough estimate, about Rs.850 crores are needed for construction of two lakh housing units in the urban areas alone. The main aim of the Board is to develop housing colonies at various places of the state under different housing schemes of HUDCO like Social Housing Schemes, Self Financing Schemes, Rental Housing Schemes for H.P. Govt. employees, Police Personnel etc. HIMUDA has also executed prestigious deposit projects of Tourism & LSG, Education departments, as well as Jawahar Navodya Vidyalyas. An important objectives of Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority is to arrange for better housing facilities at concessional rates and improved environment to the families of the slum dwellers even though rehabilitation of slum dwellers is not a major issue in the State. The State Government will prepare a comprehensive action plan for housing after taking a broad based survey of the state and the same shall be implemented by the HP Housing & Urban Development Authority. Under the various HUDCO housing schemes, the HIMUDA has so far constructed 5413 houses/flats and 1597 plots for all categories of people. The Board has developed an industrial township at Parwanoo, which is the Gateway to Himachal Pradesh. Undoubtedly, Parwanoo is the only industrial township in the State, where HIMUDA has created the compact infrastructure required for an industrial township i.e. planned industrial plots, residential and commercial complexes. HIMUDA can also take credit for planning and construction of some of the prestigious projects like designing and construction of H.P. Institute of Public Administration complexes at Fairlawns near Shimla, Hotel Holiday Home at Shimla, other hotels of Tourism department at Parwanoo, Mandi and Paonta Sahib. Commercial complexes at Mandi and Hamirpur. District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) Buildings and Hostel at Shimla, Chamba, Mandi, Nahan, Solan, Kullu & Una. |
